Susan Merritt & Fowl Play at Radcliffe’s Speakeasy (Delray Beach)

FOWL PLAY features Susan Merritt on bass, Dr. Gianni Bianchini on piano/vocals and Karl Ott on drums. They play from 9pm to midnight every Saturday night in the Wine Room. No cover. 

Susan Merritt is a professional musician (bassist) playing a wide variety of music from country/bluegrass to jazz. She was co-owner of The Jazz Showcase of West Palm Beach and co-founder, President and Executive Director of The Jazz Arts Music Society of Palm Beach (JAMS). Merritt worked for the Live Entertainment department at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia as a professional musician in The Old Country. She has been a private music instructor for over 30 years. In 2006 Susan Merritt received The American Heritage Award for Outstanding Community Service from the Palm Beach Chapter of Brandeis University National Women’s Committee in recognition of her work with JAMS. In 2023 she received an Award of Appreciation from South Florida Music Community – Piano Showcase.
Dr. Gianni Bianchini is among the leading pianists, vocalists and organists on the jazz scene today. He has played, recorded and/or studied with Jason Marsalis, Arturo Sandoval, Joshua Redman, Jeff “Tain” Watts, John Scofield and Stefon Harris and countless others from around the world. He graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree from Berklee College of Music followed by a master’s degree from New York University and was recently awarded his Doctorate in jazz piano performance from the University of Texas. Bianchini is currently on the staff as professor of jazz piano at Berklee College of Music’s La Universidad de San Francisco de Quito in Ecuador. He currently resides in South Florida and performs in the area in addition to touring in both the US and South America.
Karl Ott, percussionist, is a native Ohioan who has called South Florida home for the past 25 years. After earning a degree in Jazz Performance from Capital University, Karl hit the road with the “Glen Miller Orchestra” under the direction of Larry O’Brian. Following his road stint he joined Carnival Cruise Lines where he became the Musical Director of the Celebration Orchestra. Karl eventually settled in South Florida, where he continues to lend his talent to a variety of musical settings. He has appeared with Jazz artists Slide Hampton, Jimmy Heath, Rosanna Vitro, Richie Cole, Zoot Sims, Eddie Higgins, Dolph Castellano and Jesse Jones. Theatrical and variety show credits include performances with Elaine Paige, Joe Piscopo, Roberta Peters, Anthony and Will Nunziato, Tony Sandler, Lesley Gore and the Shrine Circus. (Delray Beach)
